How to repurpose a plastic container as an outdoor bird water dish

Repurposing a plastic container as a hanging water dish for birds

Background:

This summer, on an especially hot day, I noticed one or two finches at my hanging bird feeder outside my kitchen window mouths open, panting like dogs (very small dogs with wings, that is). It crossed my mind that they might not have found the birdbath at the side of the house and they certainly could use a drink of water on such a hot day! So I decided to make a water dish for them that could be hung next to the feeder.

Process:

Watch the video for step-by-step instructions on making a bird water dish to hang next to your bird feeder. The steps in the video are shown below. Be sure to use a clear plastic container so you can monitor the water level and clarity from the outside of the dish. If the dish has an imprinted label like this one, you can also paint over the label part only or glue a colorful plastic strip over the label.
